As a registered dietitian, I’m often asked about snacking. Is snacking good for you? Should I cut out all snacks? How do I build up a balanced snack?

Here are Lauren Twigge Nutrition, we are very pro- BALANCED snack. Balanced is key. A well balanced snack can serve as the bridge between meal times, give you an opportunity to include more color in your day, and can help decrease portion sizes at main meals. To build a balanced snack, I recommend pairing a base (generally a color or high fiber carb) with a protein containing food.

Fruit is one of my favorite bases to choose for snacks but now our mission is to pair it with a protein and this peanut butter yogurt dip is a perfect one to reach for! A Greek yogurt fruit dip loaded with fats from your favorite nut butter and paired with a high fiber fruit makes for a delicious, nutritious, and super satisfying snack.

Why you’ll love this recipe:

You’ll love using this recipe as a snack or fruit dip because it’s:

  • Higher in protein- peanut butter is a great pairing for fruits but falls short on the protein content. By stirring peanut butter into Greek yogurt, you preserve the peanut butter plus fruit flavor that you enjoy but also up the protein content with high quality protein!

  • Only two ingredients- I mean, who doesn’t love that?

  • Kid friendly- this is a great healthy snack idea for kids. My son LOVES to dip things… chips in salsa, carrots in ranch, and apple slices in this Greek yogurt fruit dip. This is a perfect option for an after school snack or to be served with breakfast to encourage your kids to eat their fruit.

  • Perfect for a brunch board- if you are serving a brunch board, this Greek yogurt fruit dip would be the perfect addition!.

  • Vanilla Greek Yogurt- I recommend opting for Greek yogurt for its higher protein content.

  • Peanut Butter- you can use any nut butter here if you prefer to stir in almond butter or walnut butter!

  • Graham crackers

  • Pretzels

Recipe FAQ:

  1. Do I have to use peanut butter?

    • Nope! If peanut butter is not your thing, this Greek yogurt fruit dip would mix perfectly with other nut butters like sunflower butter, almond butter, or walnut butter.

  2. What other ingredients can I add?

    • I tried to keep this recipe super simple but you can certainly add other flavors like nuts, cinnamon, flax seed, honey, hemp seeds, and more.

  3. What if I don’t have vanilla Greek yogurt?

    • I like to use vanilla Greek yogurt because it sweetens the dip up a bit. If you prefer to use plain Greek yogurt, then you can simply mix that with your nut butter of choice or add 1 tsp vanilla extract which will add flavor without added sugar.

  4. What is the best yogurt to choose?

    • When I choose a Greek yogurt, I typically look for these 3 things: Live and active cultures, less than 6 grams of added sugar, and at least 10 grams of protein. Prioritizing this checklist will get you on your way to choosing a better yogurt!
