Meet Laurem
I am a registered dietitian who lives in Dallas, Texas with my husband, my toddler, and our two furry friends. I’m just a normal, busy parent who has an extra love for food and nutrition! I want to share a bite of my past with you because my childhood truly shapes a lot of my nutrition perspectives as a dietitian and I think will provide some context to some of the content you will see me discuss online!
I was born and raised in central California, in a town you have probably never heard of. It’s the kind of town where you give directions by describing landmarks… “turn left at the barn” or “if you see a big rock, you have gone too far.” While it’s not a one stop light town, it is the type of town where you are guaranteed to see someone you know when you go out for dinner. This area of California is not what you picture when you think of the golden state. There are no beaches, celebrities, or wineries. Instead, there are dairies, rows and rows of trees, and John Deere tractors as the source of traffic. My hometown is located in the San Joaquin Valley, which is the top producing area of food in the United States. I like to tell everyone that I grew up where your food comes from… and I grew up in a family who really loves food.
My Mission
As a Registered Dietitian
I strive to provide evidence-based, practical nutrition advice that you can apply to your own life. Nutrition can feel complicated. It seems like everywhere you turn, there are new rules about food that end up leaving foods off your plate. I want to bring nutrition back down to its roots and empower you to make informed decisions that keep as many food groups on your plate as possible.
As a Wife & Mother
I want to provide you with simple, nutritious, and delicious recipes that work for you and your family. Healthy eating should not mean that you eat separate from your family. Healthy eating also doesn’t mean you need to spend hours in the kitchen. My memories from childhood are from time spent around our large dining table. Food is fuel, but food is also memories, culture, and much more.
As a Farmer’s Daughter
My goal is to expose you to where your food comes from. Unlike many dietitians, my agricultural background has given me a unique perspective on how our food is grown and it is a perspective I am eager to share. I want to answer your questions, share my families story, and give you back your food confidence so that you make informed choices that work for you and your family.
I am one of seven kids and the daughter of a farmer. My dinner table was filled with dairy talk, tree farming woe’s, praying for rain (but only during certain seasons) and all of the days successes or struggles were shared over a cold glass of milk. Beyond the table talk, my mom was adamant on filling that table with yummy meals that featured at least one fruit or vegetable. Food was never pressured in my home… we always had cookies in the freezer, fresh fruit on the counter, and lean meats cooking away in the crockpot. I never realized how much this easy food environment would shape my neutral perspective on food today. We used food to fuel our bodies and energize us for the many sports that we played but for me, food is far more than just fuel. Growing food is my family’s livelihood. Sharing conversations over food is many of my childhood memories. Now, I get to educate on food as my career.
That leads me to where I am now. I started my Instagram page @nutrition.at.its.roots, in 2019 and then I started my own company, Lauren Twigge Nutrition, in 2020. I have had the opportunity to work with over 100 private clients on personalized nutrition recommendations and now focus on my work online and in the media. I get to partner with amazing brands, share farmers’ stories, and educate y’all on the power of food and your health.
