We’re back with another “you won’t want to buy it from the store once you make it this way” recipe and today I have another creative way to make your own granola.

Granola is something that is super easy to make at home and I actually prefer homemade to store-bought granola because you can fully customize it to your liking. My one complaint about homemade granola? It tends to not be as crunchy as store-bought granola… that is, until I made air fryer granola.

Making granola in the air fryer is an easy way to crisp up your recipe and end up with a texture more similar to that of store-bought granola. While you can use just about any granola recipe in your air fryer, I love to make this deliciously crispy peanut butter air fryer granola to keep in my pantry!

Full of creamy peanut butter and sweetened with 100% maple syrup (or honey if you had it), this peanut butter granola crisps up perfectly in the air fryer and is delicious on its own or a tasty addition to yogurt bowls and cereal.

You’re going to love this easy air fryer recipe!

Why you’ll love this air fryer granola:

This homemade air fryer peanut butter granola will quickly become a household favorite because it’s:

  • Easy to make: This recipe only requires a few ingredients and steps before it’s ready to enjoy! All together, this recipe should take you under 30 minutes to make and you end up with granola that you can enjoy throughout the week.

  • Deliciously crispy: While you will need to toss your air fryer basket a few times to get even cooking, I find that cooking granola in the air fryer gives you a crispier granola than when you bake it in the oven!

  • Shelf stable: Once your air fryer granola is cooked, it can be stored in the pantry in an air tight container for easy snacking.

  • Family friendly: My entire family loves this peanut butter granola recipe!

  • Customizable: You can add whole chopped peanuts, adjust your portion of peanut butter, or add in other flavors to this peanut butter granola recipe to really make it your own.

Ingredients you’ll need:

This air fryer granola only calls for a few ingredients:

  1. Creamy peanut butter: I personally like to add a lot of peanut butter to my granola recipes but you can adjust your portion to your own taste preferences.

  2. Maple syrup: NOT pancake syrup. You want 100% maple syrup or you can add honey if that’s what you have on hand.

  3. Butter: This helps all of the oats stick together better.

  4. Vanilla extract: For flavor depth but optional.

  5. Old fashioned oats: The base of our granola recipe are old fashioned oats which add a nice boost of fiber to this granola

  6. Cinnamon: Optional but I think it’s a nice addition.

  7. Salt: To balance out the sweet.

Swaps, substitutions, and suggestions:

Feel free to customize this homemade granola recipe by:

  • Adding chopped nuts: Chopped peanuts, pecans, or walnuts would all be delicious in this recipe.

  • Stirring in chocolate chips: If you want a splash of sweet, you can mix in some chocolate chips after your granola has cooked and cooled.

  • Mixing in nutritious additions: Chia seeds, hemp hearts, ground flax seeds, pumpkin seeds, or even dried fruit would all taste delicious in this recipe and add a nice boost of fiber, protein, and antioxidants.

  • Change how you serve it: I like to serve mine on vanilla greek yogurt with sliced banana but you can add this granola to a bowl of milk, yogurt of your liking, or even sprinkle it over a smoothie for different ways to enjoy the same recipe!

Recipe FAQ:

  1. What if my air fryer doesn’t have a basket?

    1. I only tested this recipe in an air fryer basket but if you air fryer has a tray, I would recommend lining it or adding a baking sheet so your granola doesn’t fall to the bottom and air frying the same way, stirring it every so often to ensure even cooking.

  2. How to store homemade granola?

    1. Homemade granola should be stored at room temperature in an air tight container. I will keep mine for up to two weeks but it typically doesn’t last that long in my house!

  3. Can I make this air fryer granola with PBFit?

    1. I did not test this out but I don’t see why not! Simply hydrate your PBFit with water to the same portion of peanut butter that this recipe calls for and air fry the same way. You may want to adjust cooking time slightly to ensure that you granola doesn’t burn.
