Granola has long been a grocery store purchase of mine…. that is, until I realized just how easy it is to make your own granola at home. Not only does this tend to save you money, but it can also cut down on ingredients and added sugar while allowing you to add your own twist on it.

With a subtle maple flavor and a good bite of pecans, maple and pecan granola is the perfect addition to fall yogurt bowls, oatmeal, or can even be enjoyed on its own. Skip the store-bought and stick to easy homemade granola recipes like this one!
Why you’ll love these maple granola with pecans:
This granola recipe is one that I always have in my pantry during the fall and winter. I love it because it’s:
Easy to make: You’ll just need a few basic ingredients, one bowl, and a baking sheet for this recipe! You’ll have homemade granola with maple and pecans ready to enjoy in about 25 minutes… plus it makes your house smell delicious!
Full of pecans: I did not shy away from pecans, and you shouldn’t either! While pecans add fiber, vitamins, and minerals, they also add a delicious crunch to this granola.
Subtly sweet: I personally prefer just a hint of maple flavor, and that’s how this recipe is written. If you prefer a sweeter granola or more maple flavor, you can always add more maple syrup or even add a dash of maple extract to add the maple flavor without all of the added sugar!
Fall flavors: I stuck with cinnamon and nutmeg to really bring out the cozy fall and winter flavors in this easy granola recipe.
Naturally sweetened: While this recipe is subtly sweet, all of the sweetness comes from 100% maple syrup.
Fully customizable: This is a very basic granola recipe and you can definitely change it up! Add fun ingredients, change the ratios, or swap your seasonings.
You’re going to love this maple pecan granola recipe. Now let’s get into the ingredients you will need to make it!
Ingredients for maple and pecan granola:
One of the reasons that granola has become something I almost always make at home instead of buying at the store is because most recipes call for very basic kitchen ingredients!
For this pecan and maple granola recipe, all you’ll need is:
Old fashioned oats: The base of most granola recipes is oatmeal! Note that this recipe will give you fewer “clumps” of granola and more individual, flavored oats rather than large chunks of granola like brands you would buy from the grocery store.
Maple syrup: Not pancake syrup, you want 100% maple syrup.
Chopped pecans: add these to your hearts desire.
Cinnamon
Nutmeg: nutmeg is spicy so just add a dash.
Salt: Do not skip the salt! It balances out the sweetness of the maple syrup.
Vanilla extract
Optional: add a dash of maple extract for an extra boost in the maple flavor.
That’s it, and I’m guessing that many of those ingredients are already in your pantry!
Step by Step Instructions:
Now let’s walk through how to make this recipe. All you’ll need is a bowl to mix your ingredients in, parchment paper, and a baking sheet. I recommend choosing a small to medium sized baking sheet so that you can keep your granola close together while it bakes!
Here’s how you’ll make it:
1) Add all of your ingredients to a mixing bowl and stir until everything is well combined and coated in maple syrup. If you want a sweeter flavor or for your granola to stick together more, add extra maple syrup!
2) Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and add your granola, keeping it close together so that it can bake in clumps. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
3) Once your granola is cooled, serve as desired or store in an air tight container in the pantry and enjoy throughout the week. Enjoy!
Swaps and substitutions:
These pecan maple granola can be customized to your liking. You could try:
Changing your seasonings: I stuck with salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg but you could season this with whatever seasoning you like. Apple pie spice would be delicious!
Adding extra nutrition: Stir in ingredients like hemp seeds, flax seeds, or dried fruit for an extra boost of healthy fats and antioxidants.
Mix in different ingredients: Many granola recipes will include fun additions like rice puffs to add a new texture to your granola.
Add some butter: I have said it before and I’ll say it again, butter makes everything better. If you want a granola that will stick together a little more or has more of a sweet and savory flavor, you could add 1/4 cup melted butter to this recipe as well!
Add dried fruit: Raisins, cranberries, or even little apple pieces would be great fruit additions to this granola recipe.
Swap how you serve it: I have enjoyed this granola in a bowl with milk and also use it as a yogurt bowl topping, but the options are endless for how it’s served!
Make this homemade granola recipe your own! Most granola recipes are really forgiving and you can play around with your ratios and flavors until your build up the perfect recipe that you and your entire family will love.

Homemade granola can be stored in an air tight container for around 2 weeks. If you want to keep it for longer, you can also store it in the refrigerator or freezer!
