What is blended oatmeal?

Blended oatmeal is just as it sounds, oatmeal that has been blended in a blender or blender cup. You can blend raw oats to make oat flour or, do what we did for todays recipe, take your favorite oatmeal recipe and blend that into blended oatmeal with a batter like consistency.

So what do you do with blended oatmeal? The options are limitless! You can enjoy it as it is, use it for overnight oats, or bake it into various bars and breakfast recipes.

For a while, blended and baked oatmeal was trending online with creators posting a variety of recipes for a delicious, cake like breakfast. If you are interested in blended and baked oat recipes, here are two to try:

Why youā€™ll love this recipe:

Youā€™ll absolutely love this blended oatmeal because it is:

  • The perfect blend of flavors: This banana cinnamon overnight oats recipe is

  • Meal prep friendly: The longer this recipe sits, the better it gets! You can store overnight oats in the refrigerator for 3 to 5 days making it the perfect meal prep breakfast. I recommend using glass containers like these ones.

  • A serving of fruit: This blended oatmeal gets it creamy texture from the whole banana that you will hardly know is there!

  • Kid friendly: Got little ones who seem to push all the color around on their plate? This recipe blends the banana with the oats and disguises its appearance without losing the nutrition. You can also omit the brown sugar if you want no added sugar.

  • Enjoyed hot or cold: While traditional overnight oats recipes are enjoyed cold, this recipe can be eaten right out of the refrigerator or warmed up in the microwave for a warm bowl of blended oatmeal.

This will be one of your new favorite ways to enjoy overnight oats!

ingredients for blended oatmeal.

Ingredients:

Youā€™ll only need a few ingredients for this recipe including:

  1. Old fashioned oats: I find that these work best for overnight oatmeal but, since we will be blending the oats, you can also use quick cook oats.

  2. Milk: this will be absorbed by the oats and give a creamy texture.

  3. Banana: I recommend using a fresh banana

  4. Cinnamon: ground cinnamon

  5. Vanilla extract

  6. Brown sugar (optional): this will just sweeten things up a bit but you can leave it out if you think the banana is sweet enough!

how to make blended oatmeal.

Swaps & Substitutions:

Make this recipe your own by:

  • Add in some protein: blend in vanilla greek yogurt, vanilla protein powder, liquid egg whites, or even cottage cheese to boost the protein content of your breakfast.

  • Add chocolate: turn this into a chocolate blended oatmeal recipe by choosing Fairlife chocolate milk as your liquid! You can also blend in some unsweetened cacao powder but I would test for sweetness and adjust your brown sugar up or down to your preference.

  • Add peanut butter: banana and peanut butter always play nice together and peanut butter would be a delicious way to add some calories and healthy fats.

  • Add some crunch: Top this baked oatmeal recipe with nuts, seeds, chia seeds, and even granola for a crunch factor.

And more!

Recipe FAQ:

  1. Can I make this recipe as regular banana cinnamon overnight oats?

    1. Yes, you do not have to blend this recipe! Instead, I would smash the banana at the bottom of your overnight oat container then thoroughly mix that with your remaining ingredients. Store in a glass container, cover, and refrigerate overnight!

  2. Help, my oats turned out too runny!

    1. Because we are blending this oatmeal with the banana, we need to use slightly less liquid than we would in a traditional overnight oat recipe. If you find that your oats are too runny you can:

      • Stir in some old fashioned oats to thicken your recipe. You can eat that as is or allow it to sit overnight to let the old fashioned oats absorb some of the liquid and soften.

      • Use slightly less liquid next time you make the recipe!

  3. Can I eat this recipe warm?

    1. Yes! Overnight oats can be enjoyed warm and this recipe is no different. You can warm it up in the microwave for 1-2 minutes or on the stovetop. You may need to stir it a few times for it to warm all the way through.
