This greek yogurt buffalo chicken dip is a high protein take on a classic appetizer and can be paired with fresh vegetables for a balanced meal

Buffalo chicken dip

I love buffalo anything- buffalo wings, buffalo chicken pizza, and the classic buffalo chicken dip. I don’t, however, always love loading up on cream cheese with the buffalo chicken dip. Don’t get me wrong, I love cream cheese, but sometimes I want to serve buffalo chicken dip throughout the week and still make it a balanced meal.

I was looking for buffalo chicken dip without cream cheese so I made this recipe with Greek yogurt and cottage cheese instead. The cottage cheese adds some creamy protein and the non-fat greek yogurt adds both protein and the tangy flavor that you get with cream cheese but with less fat and fewer calories. Trust me, this Greek yogurt buffalo chicken dip will be added to your weekly meal rotation!

What to eat with buffalo chicken dip:

  • Celery stalks

  • Rolled in a romaine lettuce taco

  • Red bell peppers

  • Carrots

  • Cucumbers

  • Pita chips

  • Sliced sourdough bread

  • Tortilla chips

Why you’ll love this recipe:

Who doesn’t love a lightened up recipe? This greek yogurt buffalo dip is:

  • Protein packed- loaded with chicken, greek yogurt, and cottage cheese

  • Easy to make- this recipe is really easy to pull together. If you want to make it even easier, buy pre-cooked chicken like canned chicken or a rotisserie chicken!

  • Can be prepped ahead of time- you can prep the filling ahead of time then simply top with cheese and bake for 20 minutes when you are ready to eat.

Ingredients:

  1. Cooked chicken- you can use rotisserie chicken, canned chicken, or cooked and shredded chicken

  2. Plain greek yogurt- I prefer non-fat to keep the calorie content lower but you can use whatever fat percentage you have.

  3. Cottage cheese- I used low fat cottage cheese

  4. Buffalo sauce- pick your favorite brand

  5. Seasonings- I recommend smoked paprika and black pepper. If you want a kick, add a dash of cayenne pepper as well.

  6. Shredded cheese- this is for topping! By adding the shredded cheese to the top, you are able to notice the cheese better and use a smaller portion than if the cheese were stirred in.

  7. Optional- top with green onions for a fresh flavor!

Recipe FAQ:

  1. How long does Greek yogurt buffalo chicken dip last?

    • You can keep this buffalo chicken dip in the fridge for 3 to 5 days!

  2. How should this dip be served?

    • I recommend serving this dip warm and paired with some of the sides mentioned above like celery stalks, carrot sticks, bread chunks, or chips.

  3. Should I blend the cottage cheese?

    • Because the chicken itself adds a texture, I do not blend the cottage cheese and never notice the cottage cheese texture. If you prefer it to be smooth, you can blend the cottage cheese in a blender cup so that it is similar to the yogurt consistency!
