Ingredients:
The ingredients list may be short, but these green beans definitely are not short on flavor. Here are the ingredients you will need:
Green beans: I bought the washed and trimmed green beans in a bag but you can also wash and trim your own.
Minced garlic: jarred or freshly minced.
Butter: This is essential for the delicious toasted almonds. If you want to use less butter, I would toast the almonds in butter and then add olive oil to the pan when you are ready to sauté your green beans.
Slivered almonds: we will season and toast these to perfection. Here are the ones I used!
Seasonings: you’ll use need salt, pepper, and some garlic powder for this recipe.
The process:
This is a one pot side dish that will be ready in just a few steps. All you’ll need to do is:
Add your butter, salt, pepper, and almonds to a large sauce pan.
Toast the almonds over medium heat, stirring often, until they turn a golden brown. This will take 15-20 minutes. Remove the almonds from the pan and set them aside on another plate.
To the same pan, add another tablespoon of butter (or olive oil), your green beans, garlic, and garlic powder. Cover and cook over medium heat, stirring regularly, until they reach the desired tenderness (about 20 minutes).
LTN Tip: If you prefer more tender green beans, you can steam them in the bag first or boil them in water for about 5 minutes. Then, add them to your sauce pan with the garlic and garlic powder and sauce them for another 3 minutes. Add your almonds and enjoy.
Swaps & Substitutions:
There are plenty of ways to serve this recipe exactly the way you like it including:
Use steamable green beans: If you want to make this recipe faster, then you can purchase green beans in a steamable bag. Steam the green beans, sauté in a pan with the garlic and garlic powder for 3-5 minutes, then add your almonds and joy,
Change your add ins: You can add cooked bacon or other additions to these green beans.
Alter your seasonings: Add whatever seasonings you want or increase/decrease the amount of garlic in this recipe to make it exactly how you want it.
Add other veggies: If you want to switch it up, you could mix in roasted Brussels sprouts or broccoli to add some extra vegetables to this side dish.
