Brown Butter Golden Graham Rice Krispies

Looking for an easy dessert that is a guaranteed crowd pleaser ? These brown butter golden graham rice krispy treats have a short list of just 4 ingredients but are full of sweet and savory flavors that will have your taste buds singing.

We are about to enter holiday season where all of us are going to be assigned “a fun dessert” for your holiday get together! While not full of traditional festive flavors, these Rice Krispies are just different enough to make them seem (and taste) special.

I love a good homemade rice krispy treat and find them significantly more satisfying than the store-bought Rice Krispies, especially when they feature brown butter! Few things dress up a dessert quicker than brown butter dresses up a dessert. Brown butter is simply butter that has been cooked slightly in a pan and it adds a delicious and rich buttery flavor that enhances any dessert or savory dish that you add it to. The brown butter is a key component to these Rice Krispies and only takes a few minutes to make, so don’t skip it!

Why You’ll Love These Rice Krispy Treats

This recipe is a delicious play on the classic rice Krispy treat we all great up with.

  • Easy to make: you do not need alot of baking skill to pull together these tasty bars!

  • Minimal mess: this recipe requires only 4 ingredients and 2 pans.

  • Travels well: this is key because some sweet treats are so hard to travel with. No need to worry about squished frosting or melted snowmen here, these rice krispies are best stored at room temperature and will travel well wherever you go!

Rice Krispy Treats Recipe

No need to stay married to this recipe as it’s written, you can certainly personalize! Here are a few modifications that you can try:

  • Add a salty element like crushed pretzels or peanuts

  • Drizzle melted dark chocolate across the top.

  • Want to omit the golden grahams? Simply replace them with an equal amount of Rice Krispies and make these brown butter rice krispies instead.

Ingredients:

  • Rice Krispies: I used The Real Cereal Company rice krisps but you can add your favorite rice krispy cereal!

  • Golden Grahams: adding in the Golden Graham cereal really sets these rice krispies apart from the rest and I highly recommend including them.

  • Brown Butter: do not skip this step! Brown butter is so easy to make at home and really scales up the flavor of these rice krispies.

  • Marshmallows: I recommend using mini marshmallows as they will melt faster.

Recipe FAQs:

  1. Are these Rice Krispies gluten free?

Golden Grahams do contain gluten so no, this is not a gluten free recipe. If you need to make gluten free Rice Krispies, omit the golden grahams and replace them with gluten free Rice Krispies like The Real Cereal Company, 365 Organic Brown Rice Krisps, or Natures Path. Most popular brands of marshmallows in the naturally gluten free but of course double check to make sure they will work for you!

  2. How should I store them?

Rice Krispies are best stored in an air tight container at room temperature. Rice Krispies tend to get a soggy or tough texture when they are refrigerated so I do not recommend refrigerating them.

  3. Feeding a crowd?

This recipe will be pressed into an 8x8 pan and will make about 18 small rectangles. If you want to make a larger portion of this recipe, I would simply double all of the ingredients and press them into the 9x13 pan.
